 What is Japandi Style?

The term “Japandi” is a combination of two characteristics- one is Japanese style (hence the prefix Japan-) and the other Scandinavian (the suffix -andi from the word Scandi).

Japandi style is a mixture of Asian inspirations with practical Nordic minimalism. You can also see the nature references similar in my previous article describing Biophilia- referring to wellness. However, this doesn't always appear as a high number of plants in the interior. Japandi often uses natural materials and a color palette associated with nature.

The goal is to focus on creating a calm and clean aesthetic while embracing natural tones and textures; to promote peace of mind The color palette is filled with neutrals and muted colors- and uses pops of color for accents and contrast to create a punch.  Plants are brought in to bring in life, and warmer hues are used to create a livelier, more dynamic version of the classic minimalist- think:  tranquil, harmonic, zen.

The idea is this style of decor focuses on your home to bring a sense of calm and well-being and that connection back to nature.

The typical color palette would include:  blues, beiges, ecru, pale pinks, cappuccino, greens

The typical woods used for flooring and furniture would include: oak, ash, cedar, cypress, and beach- lending a rougher, unfinished harmony and energy to the room.

When considering your next move to become more tranquil and serene- call me.  I can help suggest and guide you to your next decision.
