Take your office to the backyard
Office space on demand is here to stay! Some stay-at-home workers have opted for their backyards, some garages, some extra bedrooms- whatever. But the demand for space remains. Look towards some creative choices to meet the demand.
I suggest a surprise: a backyard structure part modular- part custom- and very small. Designs can include not only office space- but a pull-out bed tucked into a banquette that can act as an overnight haven for a family member or overnight guests, if necessary.
Try a 15’ x 17’ foot space which would include bookshelves, a banquette, a large desk, and a round table for small lunches for your guests. Double doors can be swung open to enjoy the sunshine and backyard garden. Design it to be versatile and to be used every day.
Using your one-car garage
Hint: The use of wall space is the trick. Shelving, hooks, brackets, baskets. Pull-out drawers for papers and files, everything will have its place. Coat the cement floor with epoxy, and paint it in a checkerboard or diamond motif. (No rug will be needed)! Line the wall with pinboard to organize and declutter to corral ideas, calendars, and important to-dos. Everything has its place. (You could also add dowels for gift wrapping and ribbons, for quick access).
And imagine a roll-up garage door for letting the sunshine in!
A Home office with a secret!
Multipurpose space- office/guest room/sitting room
Create room for a variety of uses- depending on moods and desires. A Murphy bed that pulls down from a wall- disguised as a wardrobe does the trick. Use two desks and storage for books and favorite objects. Add a T.V. between- for a divergence of tastes in viewing. Let your imagination soar!
