ARCHITECTS: What to look for…and ask

For clients who might be thinking about transforming their home (or home office/business) into something more functional—or even creating a new structure from scratch—  what might we ask an architect to help turn dreams into a design reality?  There are many architects to choose from, so how do we go about choosing?

If Historic Architecture is your goal-

Find out if they have mastered the craft of architectural millwork, residential construction, and historic restoration. Find those who are experts on architectural style, craftsmanship, historic preservation, and things well made.  Ask about windows that are built the way they used to be: with superior materials and construction methods, and ask what new details and materials can be used for better efficiency.

High Elegance and Quality Construction

Look for those professionals who have a reputation for elegant design and thoughtful, high-quality construction. Find an experienced group of creatives that have a vast portfolio of both residential and commercial projects.  Usually, they will also have a loyal, select group of sub-contractors they use and depend upon for superior workmanship.

This is where experience and great referrals pay off greatly.

Looking for that “Mountain” vibe?

Some architects will excel at mountain architecture at its finest.  Those who will impart innovative design in luxury custom homes or townhomes, landscape design, and renovations. Ask about their design philosophy; Does it combine function and form to pursue true architectural design to enhance your lifestyle?

Interested in harmony and that golf course feeling?

Find an architect that specializes in luxury residential, golf clubhouse, and hospitality design.  “Living Architecture” is defined as a space that harmoniously combines site, form, functionality, and the human scale, creating the connective link between the surrounding environment and your goals and vision. Those who have designed with “golf” in mind will extend their knowledge to landscaping as well.

Harmony with Nature

Architecture that strives to always create a unique project that will live in harmony with nature is the request of many homeowners looking for a renovation. The goal is to always integrate beautiful aesthetics, natural materials, and luxurious spaces that weave into the surrounding landscape.  Your “Green” environmental concerns will then be met.

These are only some areas to pursue and questions and concerns you might explore.  The more detailed information you can provide the overall outcome you desire will be met.
